Japanese Encephalitis: Toll reaches 9 in UP

Lucknow, August 19: Two new cases of Japanese Encephalitis were reported on Saturday at Baba Raghav Das Medical college in this Uttar Pradesh district.
The vector-borne disease has so far claimed nine lives, mostly of the children.
The disease spreads its jaws each year with the onset of monsoon in eastern parts of the state including the districts of Deoria, Kushinagar, Siddharthnagar, Gorakhpur and Sant Kabirnagar.
So far, as many as 121 people are receiving treatment at Baba Raghav Das medical college.
The disease has claimed thousands of lives in the past few decades.
Every year the government starts vaccination drive to curb the vector-borne disease.
