Gaikhangam voices unity call during Haipou Jadonang death anniversary observation

IMPHAL, August 29: The 82nd Death Anniversary of freedom fighter, Haipou Jadonang was observed widely in the state with a state level observation being organized at the Haipou Jadonang Memorial Park today.
Observations of the day were also witnessed at almost all Zeliangrong inhabited areas.
Freedom fighter Haipou Jadonnang was hanged by the British on August 29, 1931 for waging war against the British empire.
The state level observation at the memorial park at Keishampat was organized by the Death Anniversary Observation Committee of Haipou Jadonang.
State Dy Chief Minister Gaikhangam led the people in offering floral tributes before a portrait of the freedom fighter.
Others VIPS who paid tribute to the leader included Commerce and Industries minister Govindas Konthoujam, MLA N Biren, P Janghemlung, TN Haokip, Z Kikhonbou Newmai.
Several leaders of civil society organizations also paid homage to the freedom fighter.
A two minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the martyr. Later, the observation was moved to the Gandhi memorial Hall, Imphal.
The construction and development of the Haipou Jadonang Memorial Park will Gaikhangam voices unity call during Haipou Jadonang death anniversary observation be completed soon and a statue of the freedom fighter erected soon, assured Dy CM Gaikhangam.
He said the CM has also instructed for the completion of the park and the statue at the earliest.
Haipou Jadonang is not a leader of a specific community, but he was a leader of the whole state and did not differentiate between the people of the hills and plain, the Dy CM said and added, “The people of the state need to unite together cutting across community, imbibe Haipou Jadonang’s beliefs and strengthen the integrity of the state.”
Claiming that the state has no authority to interfere in the current boundary fencing issue as the issue concerns an international boundary, he said that the state is trying hard to bring an amicable solution to the issue at the earliest and further assured that not an inch of the state’s land will be lost and no compromise on the state’s territory will be tolerated.
He continued that a ministerial team will soon visit the border area and look into the issue at the earliest.
Further reacting to the United Naga Council’s statement that no developmental works will be allowed inside Naga areas without prior consent, he appealed to the body not to create any disturbances which will suppress the projects sanctioned from the central governments.
Speaking at the function, Minister Govindas Konthoujam said that people should follow in the footsteps of martyr Haipou Jadonang for peace and harmony in the state.
Meanwhile, the Organising District Committee, Kalyan Ashram Bishnupur District under the aegis of Kalyan Ashram Manipur also observed the day with a simple function held at the community hall, Chinikon Bishnupur District with Th Radheshyam, Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur; Ng Tejkumar Singh, Director of Prosecution (Govt of Manipur) and Tomal Singh Chothe, president Kalyan Ashram Manipur attending as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively, said a press release of Kalyan Ashram Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Pou G Lambilung, Associate Professor Imphal College spoke on the life history of Haipou Jadonang and his rich contribution towards the society at large.
Th Radeshyam mentioned about the works of Haipou Jadonang and had also expressed that the present generation should contribute and work together for peace, said the release.
Ng Tejkumar explained on the role of Haipou Jadonang in promoting faith and culture of the indigenous people.
Around 500 individuals from 27 villages of Senapati, Imphal East and West, Churachandpur and Bishnupur district participated in the function, said the release.
During the observation, floral tributes were offered to a portrait of the leader and a one minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect, said the release.
Meanwhile, the Tingkao Ragwang Chapriak (TRC) Phom Assam, Manipur and Nagaland also observed the 82nd Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang here today at TRC Kalum Kai Guest House, Chingmeirong with Pou R Kathuna attending as chief guest and Pou R Dimrei as president, conveyed a press release of TRC Phom.
M Leirenchao while attending as resource person remembered Haipou Jadonang as a Rongmei spiritual leader in promoting Rongmei indigenous faith now called TRC and his great contribution towards it and further spoke on the extra ordinary nature of the life of Jadonang since his childhood days.
Floral tributes and a two minute silent were also observed as a mark of respect and honour for his soul, it added.
A release from the Thangmeiband Tribal Development Committee has also informed that the 82nd Death Anniversary of HAIPOU JADONANG was observed today at the residence of Secretary MPCC Jyotin Waikhom, Hijam Leikai, Thangmeiband, Imphal at 5:30 pm under the aegis of Thangmeiband Tribal Development Committee (TTDC).
It said that the function was attended by Jyotin Waikhom, as chief guest and presided over by Gangmei Makukao.
