Cabinet institutes Committee to monitor Indo-Myanmar fencing

IMPHAL, August 12: The State cabinet has decided to review the Indo-Myanmar border fencing operations currently underway by instituting a high level committee. The cabinet has taken the decision from mounting pressure rising from various civil bodies to review the fencing works at the said border. The State government spokesperson, Minister M Okendro (CAF &PD, Education) briefing the media today assured that the public sentiments arising in the wake of the border pillar fencing will be addressed.
He said that the matter has been discussed at length at the cabinet meeting today and the high level committee instituted will comprise of the Inspector General of Police, IG (Assam Rifles) South, BRTF (In charge of border road task force), Deputy Commissioner (Chandel), SP (Chandel) ADC (Moreh) along with member secretary and additional secretary(Home). There are many rules to be implemented at cross border areas but the Committee has been set up to monitor the borer fencing process, he said.
The cabinet has further decided to upgrade post of 488 constables to the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector with adherence to the norms of recruitment and promotion rules. Decision has been taken for construction of Public and semi public area to be utilized for construction of women’s market and shops which will be affected by widening of Nagamapal road. Another decision for the Commerce and Industries Department for purchasing land to institute Industrial Estates at six districts namely Imphal East, Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul has been agreed by the cabinet.
The meeting today however differed from deciding on instituting the IETE, University of Technology. The payment for allotment of land for Chorus Repertory Theatre at village number 91-A, Lamphelpat has been agreed to be tendered by the cabinet.
