IMPHAL, July 19: Relief measures have been provided to the truckers stranded along the National Highway No 2 due to landslide at Phesama located near Kohima town.
Following a 110 metres long chasm being affected by the submerged road, nearly 400 trucks have been waiting for development work on the highway since July 12.
The initiative for providing relief measures to the truckers has been taken up by the Transporters and Drivers Forum, Manipur (TDFM) led by its president, Y Bhupenchandra Ghosh and general secretary, L Ratan Khuman.
The effort commenced since July 17 afternoon onwards with rice and pulses being distributed by the forum and had continued for the next two days.
Most trucks were found parked parked at Lalmati, Zubza, Piphema and Jhollapani of Nagaland State and at Khatkhati, Lohrijan, Gautam Basti, Brojen Workshop and Raj Palace of Assam.
The forum distributed 5 kg of rice and 2 kg of pulses to each truck which was greatly welcomed by the drivers and handymen.
Most truckers had already used up the travelling expenses during the last 6/7 days.
Meanwhile after a thorough discussion of by-pass routes available and their feasibility, the forum had resolved that the tankers will reach the state via the National Highway 37 for transportation of essential items to the state public.
The TDFM is an umbrella organization constituted by All Manipur Inter State Bus Association, All Manipur Petroleum Tankers Drivers Union; National Highway 53/57 Truck Owners Association; Drivers Welfare Association, Manipur; Highway Truck Owners Welfare Organization; North-East Inter- State Wingers Transporters Union; Manipur Inter-State Taxi Workers Association and Educated Un-employed Local Truck Owners Association.
