Police rescue vehicle lifters from clutches of mob in Jiribam

JIRIBAM, July 27: Even as residents of the Jiribam Sub Division had been on a vigil against vehicle lifters, two managed to escaped at Teachers’ Colony this early morning.
Residents of one of the quarters this early morning found two vehicle thieves trying to lift vehicles, however, the two managed to flee from the scene leaving behind the vehicle on noticing that the owners had woken up.
Meanwhile in an unrelated incident, a team of Jiribam police commandos arrived and took away two vehicle lifters, suspected to be personnel of the IRB and police commandos, who were caught by the locals trying to get away with stolen vehicles.
According to reports, the first incident occurred when two unidentified persons sneak into the residence of H Nodiyachand Singh, a staff of the Community Health Center and tried to take away a Pulsar bike bearing registration no AS 11D 1027 at Teacher Colony, Babupara around 3 am.
When family members came to know about the incident and tried to nab the two, they managed to flee from the scene abandoning the vehicle.
In the second incident, some unidentified persons stole a Honda Dezzlar bike bearing registration no MN 01Y 4260 which belong to one Thangjam Koireng Singh (45), son of late Th Baba Singh of Kalinagar Part-1.
It is also learnt that morning joggers had witnessed some individuals pushing out the motor, but when asked, the individuals had replied that they were cleaning the motor cycle.
After being informed that the vehicle has been stolen, relatives of Koireng started looking for it.
And, when some people saw a suspicious looking individual coming with a rice bag used for covering vehicles, they stealthily followed him and found that the man was staying along with other persons at Hotel Binokumari room no 2 at Kalinagar.
Suspecting their hand in the lost of the vehicle, the locals apprehended them and started beating them up.
However, on hearing about the incident, a team of Jiribam Police and CDO rushed in at the spot and rescued the lifters from the clutches of the irate mob.
The identities of the vehicle lifters could not be ascertained till the time of filing this report.
However, sources said that one personnel of 1st IRB attached to CDO and another IRB personnel already booked with a criminal case for illegally carrying a bomb were among the four vehicle lifters.
On being asked by the locals, the Jiribam police had informed that investigation is on and that they will inform the people about the investigation later.
Apart from the four accused, another person from the locality is also being questioned by the police in connection with the case.
