NSCN (K) attack at Noney

IMPHAL, July 3: Post the incident which occurred on June 23 in which, six cadres of the NSCN (K) were allegedly shot dead by troops of the 10th Assam Rifles at Songlung area of Tamenglong district, another incident of firing occurred today at around 4.15 pm.
The incident occurred near the Noney bridge when four heavily armed cadres suspected to be cadres of the NSCN (K) fired several rounds in the air, reliable source said.
Some CRPF personnel were also passing by in a Road Opening Party in the area, the source said.
The fire also caused panic among the villagers and the Noney market was soon closed down, it said. The attackers are also said to have shouted some slogans of taking revenge against the AR personnel, the source informed while adding that the cadres later went towards Lukhambi area.
It may be mentioned that the AR post is just in the vicinity and post firing the troops are said to have cordoned off the area and operations were conducted.
It may be mentioned that the earlier encounter was denied as a fake one by the Unite Naga Council and had condemned the act and charged the AR of foul play. The matter has also been intimated by the body to the Prime Minister and other concerned ministry.
