Manipur State Legal Services Authority organizes Lok Adalat

IMPHAL, July 28: The Manipur State Legal Services Authority has said in a press release that a Lok Adalat was organized today at Cheirap Court Complex while adding that 78 cases were brought up concerning compoundable electricity theft cases and 26 cases were listed concerning Motor Vehicle Insurance claims cases relating to National Insurance Co. Ltd.
The press release further said that two benches of Lok Adalat were constituted for the purpose of hearing and disposing the cases comprising of Ph Surendra Singh retired, District & Sessions Judge, Ch Momon Singh, advocate and Ph Binodini Devi, advocate in bench No.1; and M Manojkumar Singh, Judge, Special Court (NDPS), Manipur, L Bijoy Singh Advocate, K Manorama Devi Advocate in the bench No.2, it said.
The Lok Adalat settled 51 cases in total, it said.
There were 26 cases pertaining to motor vehicle insured claim out of which 11 cases were disposed of in the sitting. A total amount of Rs. 21,08,0001 was awarded as compensation. The highest compensation awarded in case of death was Rs.4, 50,000 and that of injury Rs. 3, 20,000. There were 40 electricity related cases disposed of and a total amount of Rs.1, 03, 1001 was collected as fine during the course of the sitting, it further said.
