Journalists and students feted in Jiribam

JIRIBAM, July 17: Several journalists and meritorious students of Class 10 and 12 of Jiribam were felicitated today by presenting awards and presents in a solemn function organised by Manipur Chronicle, an English daily newspaper held at the auditorium hall, JIMPAL around 1 pm.

The function was attended by Th. Ibomcha Singh, Upa Adhyakshya Imphal East Zilla Parishad; Nilotpol Choudhury, Editor of Manipur Chronicle and M. Joymangol, president of All Jiribam Working Journalist Union (AJWJU) as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Delivering welcome and key note address, Seram Herajit Singh, publisher of Manipur Chronicle stated that the felicitation programme was organised by the newspaper with an aim to encourage the students and journalists who has been providing news to public regardless of any situation and hardships informing that the newspaper is being printed at Silchar even though its head office is located at Jiribam.

During the function, awards were presented to Ph. Teena Devi, O. Urmila Devi, S. Pritika, Md. Mahebub, S. Priya Devi and Th. Suresh Singh who are all students of Class 10 and to Y.M. Kabir Ahmed (Class 12 Science), L. Kebisana (Class 12 Arts).

Further, journalists F. Ahmed, Th. Sarat Kumar Singh, M. Joymangol Singh, Ng. Biswajit, M. Romeo Singh, A. Lukhoi Singh, Y. Sanjit and A. Gopimohan Sharma were also presented awards along with memento.

Speaking as chief guest, Th. Ibomcha Singh said that such felicitation programmes need to be held on regular basis to encourage students and journalists so that they keep on yielding satisfactory results which in turn would help in developing the State.

While delivering presidential speech, Nilotpol Choudhury asserted that journalists should strive hard in tandem with the ever changing world saying that workshop, carrier counselling and football match would be organised for journalists of Jiribam soon.

L. Ranjit Kumar Singh, principal of Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School; L. Surendra Kumar Singh, principal of Highway English School; Hena Vaiphei, president of All Jiribam Tribal Association; M. Hemanta Singh, president of JDO; S. Sushila Devi, president of AJMP; H. Mema Devi, president of JIMPAL and N. Nivarani Devi, president of WACAK also attended the function.
