HR training at MU concludes

IMPHAL, July 25:  The valedictory function of a seven day training program on Human Rights which started on July 19 was held at the Centre for Human Rights and Duties Education (CHRDE),  Lecture Hall, Manipur University today organised by the centre.

Y Joykumar, Director General of Police; Dr M Sureshkumar Singh, Co-ordinator, CHRDE, MU;  IAS retired P Saratchandra, former Principal Secretary; Prof RK Hemakumar singh, Dean of Students’ Welfare, MU; Prof N Lokendra Singh, Registrar, MU, Khaidem Mani, advocate, High Court, president All Manipur Bar Association were present at the function as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

Addressing the function, DGP Y Joykumar said that there is a need of a prompt, impartial and independent judiciary for the survival of human rights.

One should know and understand the Indian Constitution, he said before adding that Articles 20 and 21 are very much important while understanding Human Rights.

Advocate, Khaidem Mani speaking as the guest of honour said that the police department needs to be reformed.

There are a lot of pending cases and the period is termed as the “Statutory Period”, he said, before adding that with cooperation of the people, the police can lessen the statutory period.

At the end of the function, certificates were distributed to the participants of the seven day training program.
