IMPHAL, July 4: A public meeting was held today at Longmai (Noney) Bazar Community Hall in Tamenglong district against the reported killing of six NSCN (K) cadres on June 22 at Songlung village in Senapati district by 10th Assam Rifles in an alleged fake encounter has resolved to call a 24 hours general strike from the midnight of July 8.
The meeting has also resolved to demand withdrawal of all the Assam Rifles posts in Zeliangrong regions and Naga inhabited Areas.
The public meeting which started at 10:30am this morning at Longmai (Noney) bazaar community hall was jointly organized by Zeliangrong Baudi Manipur, All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AZSU), Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) and Zeliangrong Students’ Union Manipur (ZSUM).
Besides the leaders of the organizing Zeliangrong frontal bodies, speakers at the meeting include presidents of United Naga Council (UNC) and None Bazaar Board, representatives of CORE and COHR, and LifeWatch general secretary N Thanil Singh.
Speakers at the meeting claimed that out of the six NSCN (K) cadres, four of them were asked repeatedly to report to the 10th Assam Rifles post at Noney following which, they had gone to the 10 Assam Rifles post on June 18 last at about 6:30 pm.
The four NSCN (K) cadres, (L) Chujanglung Dangmei (36), son of Kapukhin Dangmei of Phanagong village, Khoupum valley in Tamenglong district; (L) Leikampou Thaimei (37), son of (L) Khangdimlung Thaimei of Tousemjing village, Khoupum valley in Tamenlong district; (L) St Moningam Anal (39), son of St Thumlen Anal of Zulbungching village under Sugunu police station in Chandel and (L) Majadai Panmei (31), son of Damchuilung Panmei of Duainanglong village of Tousem sub-division in Tamenglong district, as soon as they entered the 10 AR post at Noney were taken under their custody and were never released, they alleged.
Col Ajay Sharma and Maj Gagan of the 10 AR post further asked the other two NSCN (K) cadres, (L) Ngoubui Newmai of Inem village, Tousem sub-division in Tamenglong district and (L) Laban Rongmei, 21, son of Reikamang of Bamgaijang village, Tousem Sub-division in Tamenglong district to report to their post, following which the two had also gone to the 10 AR post on June 21 last, they said.
However, Col Ajay Sharma and Maj Gagan have claimed that the six NSCN (K) cadres were killed in an encounter on June 22 at Songlung village, which is some 50 km away from their post, when the fact is that they were killed in cold blood by the 10 AR personnel, speakers at the meeting alleged.
The meeting while strongly condemning the incident has resolved to call a 24 hour general strike from the mid night of July 8 till the midnight of July 9 in Zeliangrong regions.
The meeting further resolved to urge the state government to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to find out the truth to deliver justice to the families of the six slain cadres of NSCN (K).
