Biden to deliver policy speech on India's role in Asia-Pacific

Washington, July 19: US Vice President Joe Biden will deliver a US foreign policy speech on thursday reflecting India's growing role in the Asia-Pacific region before leaving for his maiden visit to India.
"The Vice President will focus on the United States' enduring commitment to the rebalance toward Asia, India's growing role in the Asia-Pacific region, and the critical importance of deepening US trade relationships and building constituencies for shared economic values," said the White House.
Biden's remarks on US policy toward the Asia-Pacific region are hosted by the Center for American Progress and would be held at the George Washington University.
Biden met a group of Indian American community leaders yesterday to discuss with them the relationship with India.
According to the White House, Biden will also travel to Singapore after visiting New Delhi and Mumbai and is scheduled to leave for India on July 19 while the details of his trip has still not been announced.
His trip to India comes immediately after the visit of Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, and Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma to Washington during which they met top officials of the Obama Administration, corporate executives and lawmakers.
In June the Secretary of State John Kerry, had travelled to India for the India-US Strategic Dialogue.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to visit Washington late September or early October at the invitation of the US President Barack Obama.
