AR Major in Jiribam slapcase shifted to Silchar

IMPHAL, July 20: The general secretary of the United Tribal Liberation Army (SK Thadou) group who was arrested by the Jiribam Police for serving a monetary demand of Rs 10 lakhs along with a hand grenade at H/L and Sons Oil Pump, Jiribam on the intervening night of July 12 and 13 last is now in the custody of Imphal West District Police following a requisition from the Jiribam Police.

Moreover, Major Anand Tanti of 22nd Assam Rifles who along with his team had tried to storm into the Jiribam PS in a bid to snatch the accused from the Jiribam Police and who had reportedly slapped the Addl SP Jiribam has been shifted from his post of Commander of the Jiribam Railway post.

According to reports recieved by the IFP, Major Tanti, Commander of Jiribam Railway Post with some of his personnel who stormed into the Jiribam Police Station breaching certain security norms is now been kept at Headquarters, IGAR (E) in Silchar following the incident.

The Jiribam Police Station had registered an FIR case No. 41 (7) 2013 against him citing - “created troubles inside the office complex of Jiribam PS and tried to assault and overpower the police personnel for getting back the apprehended culprit who had admitted to be a member of KRA (U)”.

The report further said the Jiribam Police had also registered two cases against the UTLA (SK Thadou) general secretary Seino Guite (29), son of Lamthang Guite of New Lamka, Churachandpur.

The first case registered under FIR No. 39 (7) 2013 JBM PS U/S 386/400 and for Explosive Substances Act concerns serving monetary demand at the oil pump while the second case registered under FIR No. (7) 2013 JBM PS was for collecting monetary demand from ‘’Emoinu Counter’’, Jiribam.

The arrested accused along with some personnel of 22nd AR coming in a numberless Gypsy car had allegedly tried to fetch the extortion amount from the place, as reported. It is said that the accused was arrested from the scene itself by the Jiribam Police.

Three mobile phones, a money bag containing cash amount of Rs 500, one memory chip and a piece of line paper on which a name along with a telephone number was inscribed were recovered from his possession.

The report further disclosed that acting on the two cases registered by the Jiribam Police Station, a court had remanded him to police custody for further investigation.

It may be mentioned here that a mob outcry had also erupted at Jiribam demanding to hand over the culprit to them following the action of the accused.
