JCOILPS continues with ILP agitation despite govt appeal Bans “Siroy travels” for ferrying non-locals without legal documents

IMPHAL, June 2: Even after an appeal accompanied by a strong statement from the state Dy Chief Minister to withdraw its stance to undergo with its proposed forms of agitations, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System supported by other bodies has initiated its agitations as announced earlier.

The committee has today announced a five day ban on a bus service counter after its bus was found carrying non-locals without valid papers.

The media co-ordinator of the committee, Somorendra Thokchom had told IFP that hill volunteers of the committee had found two non-locals without proper verification papers in a bus while conducting a search.

The JCOILPS had earlier announced that it will impose a ban on entry of non-locals into the state for five days starting from June 1 as its first stage of agitation against the failure of the state government to impose the ILP in the state.

On the earlier incident of a ban on the bus service, Somorendra Thokchom informed IFP that the incident took place at an area in Kangpokpi along the National Highway 2 today around 10:30am.

He said, a bus bearing regd no MN 04 2278 belonging to the Siroy travels was found carrying two non-locals without any valid documents. The bus was coming from Gauhati to Imphal, he continued.

He said, that the two were caught when JCOILPS’s hills volunteers at Kangpokpi checked the bus. Later the two non-locals were made to turn back by the volunteers, he said.

Somorendra Thochom said it was already announced that as part of the first agitation, the influx of non-locals into Manipur would be banned from June 1 to June 5.

JCOILPS had appealed to concerned Inter-state bus travel agencies not to ferry non locals from outside the state into Manipur.

The Siroy travel bus has been banned for five days for carrying non-locals against the agitation being launched by JCOILPS in association with the public.

If other agencies indulge in such activity against the wishes of the public, the travel agency will be banned for one month, he said.

Somorendra Thochom applauded JCOILPS’ volunteers, Kangpokpi for successfully launching the agitation against the influx of non-locals.
