Rally at Khongjom

IMPHAL, May 8: A large number of women living in the vicinity of Khongjom  took out a rally demanding that any kind of former armed cadres who have now joined the peace process should not be housed in the Khongjom area of Thoubal district . The rally started from the Khongjom bazaar and concluded at the Khongjom Kheba Ching. Rallyists held placards which read- 'No housing of surrenderees at the Khongjom area', 'don’t house surrenderees at Khongjom being a historical place', 'Khongjom area is not the place for surrenderees'. The protestors also shouted slogans against the reported move.

Terming the government’s move as undesirable, Secretary of the Khongjom area Meira paibi said that surrenderees should not be put up on any condition at the Khongjom area. A road blockade has also been in place since yesterday.
