Handloom and handicraft exhibition cum cultural meet for peace and harmony

KANGPOKPI, May 16: Haokholal Hangshing, Chairman Autonomous District Council Sadar Hills on Wednesday inaugurated a Handloom and Handicraft Exhibition cum Cultural Meet for Peace and Harmony at Kangpokpi Community Hall.

The Handloom and Handicraft Exhibition cum Cultural Meet for Peace and Harmony was organized by the Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council Kangpokpi with support and help from NGOs, Directorate Commerce and Industry, Art and Cultural, Government of Manipur.

While Haokholal Hangshing, Chairman ADC Sadar Hills graced the inauguration function as chief guest, DK Thangboi Haokip, Addl Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi and Chonkam Kipgen, chairman Kangpokpi Town Committee graced the function as guest of honour and functional president respectively.

All Executive Members, Member of ADC Sadar Hills and other District Level Officers also attended the function besides leaders of local civil bodies.

Speaking at the function, Haokholal Hangshing mentioned that the Handloom and Handicraft Exhibition cum Cultural Meet would give opportunity to artisans and craftsmen to display their skills and also earn their livelihood through their gifted talent.

"This is the first time Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council Kangpokpi has organized this type of exhibition and meet. It is a humble start to encourage those interested in the works of arts, handicrafts, handloom etc," added Hangshing. He expressed his hope that such exhibitions would be held on a bigger scale with co-peration  from the general public, NGOs and the state government.

Addl Deputy Commissionerof  Kangpokpi DK Thangboi appealed to everyone to bring out their best products to get customers not only in the local areas and the state but also from the entire NE region and the nation.

While seeking support and cooperation from every individual to encourage the skills of Arts and Culture, Handloom and Handicrafts lover of the region, he also wished the mela  a grand success.

25 different Arts and Culture, Handloom and Handicrafts stall were opened in the exhibition. Dorothy Dry flower production from Bongbal Khullen and Flower Making, Integrated Rural Management Association (IRMA), Saikul were the most visited stalls of the day. The stall by the Maram Arts and Literature Association of T Khullen was also an attraction to visitors.

A cultural meet will also be held tomorrow at Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi as part of the Mela.
