CM meets representatives of ILP committee

IMPHAL, May 20: As per an official notification from the Secretariat of Chief Minister on May 18, the Chief Minister O. Ibobi met with representatives of the committee demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit System.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh met with the prominent leaders of the committee on ILP at 4 p.m. during which all the cabinet Ministers attended.
However, it is learnt that the Chief Minister and his cabinet Ministers did not give any positive signals to the representatives of the committee with regard to the implementation of Inner line permit system.
Convenor and co-convenors of Joint committee on Inner line permit system and representatives of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System of Students’ Union attended the joint meeting with the cabinet Ministers led the Chief Ministers.
It was announced in advance that the two committees would launch various forms of agitations if ILP system is not enforced in Manipur by May 31.
Meanwhie, tThe Joint Committee on the Inner Line Permit System of Students’ Unions organized an awareness program on the extension and adoption of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 at the Lamlong Higher Secondary School today.
The program was attended by Joy Chingakham co-convenor, JCILP; Covenor of JCILPS Sapamcha Jadumani along with the students and faculties of the school.
Speaking at the program, Joy Chingakham said there are no big industries in the state and most small scale industries in the state are controlled by non-locals.
Unless the people of the state demand implementation of the ILP, they cannot wait for the outsiders to implement it for the state, he said.
He further demanded from the concerned authorities to implement the act in the state at the earliest.
The JCILPS of Students’ Unions’ convenor Angamba said the people of the state should continue to pressure the government by joining hands on the issue and demand for the implementation of the act in the state at the earliest.
Otherwise, in another ten years of time, there will be no indigenous population as they will be extinct from Manipur, he said, citing the situation of Tripura.
Sapamcha Jadumani said, it would be hard for the state to stop the infiltration of non-locals into the state if the people of the state remain oblivious to the issue now.
He said, the present movement of the bodies will be the last and final movement for the implementation of the act in the state.
