Old transformer installed at Tamenglong, alleges civil society group

IMPHAL, April 17: A spokesperson of the Indigenous Women and Children Foundation at Ward No. 1 of Tamenglong District Headquater has disclosed to IFP that the transformer of the Electricity Department installed at the compound of the District Hospital located at Tamenglong District Headquarter was not a new one but an old transformer and called upon the concerned  authority to look into the matter.

He said that the transformer was installed by the Electricity Department  following the request made by the Chief Medical officer (CMO) of the hospital in writing to the Deputy Commissioner of the District for the public of Tamenglong District Headqurater  in general and the patients in particular. It was said that the transformer cost around Rs. 15/16 and the public of the area should extend support for using it properly when it was installed.

However the transformer has been found to break down very often even before the transformer is to turn three months old. The transformer is reportedly leaking oil which flows down into plastic bottles being placed by the public. When the public of the area looked closely at, no proof has emerged to indicate that it is a new transformer.

The foundation on behalf of the public of Tamenglong District Head Quarter appealed to the authority concerned to look into the matter.
