Silver jubilee of commemorative march of NE observed

IMPHAL, March 22: The Manipur State Organising Committee of 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and Knit India Cycle Marchers, Manipur observed the silver jubilee commemorative march of the North East from Itanagar to Shantiniketan for peace, understanding and friendship at Asha Jina Complex today.
During the occasion, S Rupachandra, State Co-ordinator said about 25 years ago,the Knit India Cycle March from Itanagar to Okha in Gujarat was launched under the leadership of the noted humanist and social worker Baba Amte covering the entire north east region including Sikkim. This year, a team of 24 members are renewing the message of love, goodwill and peace to be traveled by Vehicle from Itanagar to Shantiniketan.
The team reached Imphal on March 21, 2013 and the reception and public meetings were done at Char Hazare and Bishnupur. The team will leave for Silchar on March 24, 2013 via Jiribam. The team started off from Itanagar on March 15, 2013 and will reach Shantiniketan on April 16, 2013, he added.
R Sundersan, Vice President of the March organizing committee said, "We are feel like we are at home in Imphal. People here are very helpful and friendly." He then added that the 1988-89 march was held with the objectives of national integration and creating environmental awareness.
"The real purpose of the march is to develop friendship with each and every people. If we cannot love our neighbor we cannot love our country. The northeast is not only beautiful but is resourceful and its people are highly talented in every field, " he added.
The occasion was presided over by A Brajakumar Sharma, Retired Professor DM College of Science and attended by Th Haridas Singh, Padmashree as Chief Guest.
