Sharmila’s mother hospitalized

IMPHAL, March 25: Irom Ongbi Sakhi Devi, the mother of Irom Chanu Sharmila who has been on an indefinite fast over the demand for repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers’ Act 1958 has been hospitalized at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS). Irom Singhajit who was attending to Irom Ongbi Sakhi Devi at the Emergency and Trauma Centre of JNIMS told this IFP reporter that she suffers from chest pain and asthma.
"She had difficulty with her breathing after she went out in the sun. Today, she had gone out for some work in the sun since morning without food as she did not want to eat. However she took an ORS-1 so that she did not feel tired but she threw it up," Singhajit informed.
Irom Ongbi Sakhi Devi was taken to hospitalaround 7.45 pm today after complaining of breathing difficulties. Her BP was recorded at 160/90 when she reached the hospital.
Irom Singhajit continued that his mother had been hospitalized twice due to her asthma since Sharmila began fasting. She was in comma twice but she survived both times. Irom Chanu Sharmila who is also in the security ward of the same hospital was not informed of her mother's hospitalisation today at JNIMS.
Irom Sakhi Devi, wife of Irom Nanda Singh of Kongpal Kongkham Leikai is 83 years old and has five sons and four daughters.
Additionally, representatives of the Aam Adami Party met Irom Chanu Sharmila who was detained in the security ward. During the meeting, the APP representatives expressed that it would support the agitation being launched by Irom Chanu Sharmila.
