SC appointed commission on "fake encounter" starts inquiry GoM fills 33 affidavits: sources

IMPHAL, March 2: The Supreme Court appointed Commission to investigate six cases fake encounters in the state has begun its inquiry from today in Imphal. The functioning of the Supreme Court Appointed Commission started at around 9am at the Classic Hotel.
IFP’s effort to meet with the functionaries of the Commission, including Secretary PS Moorthy and other officials were all denied.
In the meantime, it is learnt from reliable source that the first sitting of the commission will be initiated from 9am of March 3.
The sitting will be conducted till 4pm, the source informed and added that six cases of six different incidents which has been identified as “Fake encounter” will be brought up during the sittings.
The source also saud that the government of Manipur has already filed 33 different affidavits regarding the six different cases. Out of the six cases, a civil witness has already filed his affidavit on one of cases, the source added. It is also learnt that the private counsels representing the Government of Manipur had also helped in filing the affidavits today.
Meanwhile, Human Rights Alert Executive Director Babloo Loitongbam told IFP that he along with his colleagues, have filed the affidavits of two eye witnesses.
He said that he has now helped in filing nine affidavits for the victim families and added that witnesses can file affidavits till 5pm of March 3.
He also continued that since there is still time tomorrow, victim families are preparing to file their affidavits.
