Forms JAC; disrupts water supply from Singda Dam


IMPHAL, March 26: A JAC has been formed in connection with the handing over of a civilian of Singda Kadangban Part I under Lamsang Police Station to the police by a column of the 10th Assam Rifles who claimed that the individual was an armed cadre.

The JAC has also shut down the Singda Dam from distributing water to the Water Supply department.

Meanwhile, the  Sekmai MLA  Kh Debendra Singh who came to meet with the locals of the area gave his assurance that he would discuss the matter with the state DGP and the SP Imphal West and after considering the charges levelled against N Leirenjao Singh by the Assam Rifles would release him by 3pm tomorrow.

It may be mentioned that Ningthoujam Leirenjao Singh, 45 son of (L) N Ahongjao Singh of Kadangban Part I under Lamsang Police Station who is said to be a rickshaw puller was arrested by the 10th Assam Rifles, Kangchup post from his residence during the intervening night of March 23-24 on the charge that he is a cadre of an armed outfit and later, handed over to the police.

A spokesperson of the newly formed JAC “Mapari Imom Kanba Lup” said, the JAC has been formed due to the failure of the concerned authorities to release N Leirenjao Singh till today and stated that Ningthoujam (o) Papak Devi of kadangban Part I has been chosen as the leader.

Soon after its formation, the JAC shut down the water supply from Singda Dam reiterating the demand of the locals for the unconditional release of N Leirenjao Singh.

The spokesperson said, the JAC will continue with stern agitations unless the demand is met with and further added that the JAC has been formed with women volunteers from seven women organizations from Kadangban and its surrounding areas.

Elaborating on the assurance provided by the Sekmai MLA, the JAC also declared that if N Leirenjao Singh is not released by the given time frame, it will launch more intensive agitations.
