IMPHAL, March 2: In a major goof up, the Council of Higher Education, Manipur (CoHSEM)ended up providing questions papers that also included answers to students of Class XII, appearing for their Engineering Drawing paper today. It took 30 minutes before invigilators on exam duty realized the mistake, following which question papers were snatched away. A total of 89 students were sitting for the subject.
Matters came to light when students of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School who were writing their exams at the EK Higher Secondary School, Sangakpham first reported the blunder to the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM)who in turn called a press conference around 11:30 am at its Keishampat office.
Unofficial sources of the Council has in the meantime clarified that the subject is new and that as it was introduced only last year, the council had certain handicaps which resulted in the goof up.
The source while stating that the exam will be conducted again, also informed IFP that the authorities will find out the exact cause of the incident and act accordingly.
Meanwhile, DESAM general secretary Arambam Thoithoi Singh has demanded a clarification on the issue from the concerned authorities and called for action against erring officials.
He continued last year there was an issue of a question paper leak during the Class XII exam and further added whether it is mandatory for the CoHSEM to commit mistakes every year.
The press conference was also attended by several students of the subject who demanded full marks.
The blunder has not only wasted the time of the students during their exam, but has also dampened their spirits, the students echoed.
Meanwhile, the Students’ Welfare Association of Kangleipak (SWAK) has condemn the Council of Higher Secondary Education for its negligence in the conduct of the Engineering Drawing paper of the XII exam today.
A press release of the student body has said that CoHSEM should dropped off the subject altogether if it is too much for the council.
It further claimed that several students in six centres were sitting for the Electrical Engineering paper today.
The SWAK demanded the Council to clarify before the newly set re-examination date of March 25.
