CM’s pacifying act; says govt taking up action on case


IMPHAL, March 20: State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has said that the government has already initiated stern steps in Kiran's case and assured that no accused in the case will be spared, informed a DIPR press release.

Addressing the inaugural function of a new SBI bank branch as the Chief guest at Gamnom, Saparmeina, Senapati today, the Chief Minister further appealed to all not to let the incident take a communal tone, it said.

Continuing his address, he said that the state police have already arrested two of the main accused and is trying to arrest the third accused in the case who is absconding, as per the statement.

The Chief Minister further continued that people should not blame the whole community if one or two individuals of the community have done a wrong, it said.

He continued that the government can arrest any criminal and put him/her in judicial custody; however it cannot determine the punishment as it is the job of the law courts, the statement said.

The two accused now in police custody are Md Salim, son of Md Abdul Kaheer and Md Sabbir, son of Md Abdul Hussain, both residents of Kiyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai in Imphal East district.
