IMPHAL, February 26: Representatives of the Village Defence Force personnel from all nine districts of the state staged a sit in protest at the Keishampat Keisham Leikai Lairembi Community Hall demanding increment of their honorarium and misuse of VDF personnel by high ranking police officials.

The agitating force later submitted a memorandum to the state Chief Minister on their demands.

They further threatened that in case of failure of the state government to discuss and fulfill their demands by February 28; then altogether 10,500 personnel of the force in the state will resign together.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the sit in protest, a spokesperson of the force said that VDF personnel are used by higher ranking police officials for their household chores, which amounts to mistreating them.

He further alleged that certain personnel who are posted at the Hill districts are used at the residences of the high ranking officials and sent their substitutes to their posting places.

The VDF personnel are also made to share their honorarium with their substitutes, he added.

He further called upon the general public not to misunderstand them.

Meanwhile, according to a source, representatives of the force had submitted their memorandum to the state Chief Minister later in the evening. The CM has assured to discuss their demands day after tomorrow, the source added.
