Woman found dead with slit throat

IMPHAL, November 30: A middle age woman was found murdered with her throat slit at Langol Game village near Manipur Zoological garden under Lamphel Police Station.

She was found lying dead in a drain on the inter village road between Iroisemba Langol and Khundi Lamshang road with her throat slit by the locals, who were passing the area this early morning at around 7. The locals informed the police right after they saw the death body.

The age of the woman is believe to be between 40-45 years, and looks like a Meitei, she was found wearing pink Phanek, blue inner garment, green sweater, white top, dark coffee colour woollen cloth, ring on left ring finger, bangles on both hands and earring.

One hand bag was also found about 70 meters away from the dead body, and inside the bag, one t-shirt size of a minor boy, sandalwoods, and some vegetables were found, but there was no cash or mobile phones.

A forensic team along with the District Magistrate inspected the crime scene but any suspected murder weapon was not found at the area.

Police suspect the incident might have happened during the wee hour of the intervening night of November 29 and 30. “She might have been killed and robbed of her money and other valuable items,” police said.

Police has taken up a murder case and the dead body has been deposited at RIMS morgue for further verification.

Meanwhile, condemning the incident, Women Action for Development (WAD) called a press conference at its office at Palace compound today.

Speaking to media persons, WAD secretary Sobita said that the women body strongly condemn the happening of crimes against women.

“Many demonstrations, awareness programmes had been organized, but crime against women still continues, so there is something missing here which we all should be concern of,” she said.

While demanding the state Home department to give special attention towards these matters related to crime against women, she said that “the culprits involved in these kinds of crime should be awarded capital punishment to create a fear in committing such crimes. Many criminals get away easily under the influence of some corrupt policemen, MLAs and even ministers.”

“Most of these crimes are committed under the influence of drugs. So the government should also look into the matter with seriousness,” she further demanded.

WAD has finished compiling the list of women, who were killed in the last ten years, she informed.

United Nations special rapporteur on violence against women is coming to India soon and during the rapporteur’s visit, WAD will submit a compilation of violence against women in the last five years in the state, she further informed.

While appreciating the seriousness shown by the state Home Minister in Jamthailu’s case, she appealed the Home Minister to do the same in this case too.
