Women Commission to press for ‘Task Force’


IMPHAL Nov 19: The Chairpersons of the eight north-eastern states Women Commission (WC) has decided to forward a proposal to the Union Government for the formation of a ‘Task Force’ to oversee the women related issues, as said by a release today.

It further added that the decision was brought after holding a regional conference titled ‘Regional Conference of Empowerment of Women: An instrument to poverty Alleviation’ that was held at Regional Conference Centre, Shillong on Friday, November 16.

Chairperson, Manipur State Commision for Women, Dr L Ibetombi Devi and member secretary S Meghachandra Sharma took part in the conference, and the proposal for the formation of ‘Task Force’ was initiated by the state commission of the women during the conference which was accepted by the chairpersons and members secretaries of all the NE Women Commission, the release further added.

The said conference was attended by Meghalaya CM, Dr Mukul Sangma; Chairperson, National Commission for Women, Mamata Sharma; NCW member Wansuk Syiem, and eight chairpersons for state women commission of NE Region.
