Students boycott Education Minister

JIRIBAM, October 28: Jiriabm branches of student bodies including the All Manipur Students’Union, district committee, Manipur Students’ Federation, special branch and Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur, Jiri Local Council has announced that the state Education Minister will be boycotted from entering the sub-division unless the Minister look into the several grievances faced by the students of the sub-division.
The student bodies released a joint press statement today announcing their decision.
It has said that student bodies of the sub-division had urged the state Education Minister to inspect the schools in the sub-division and to look into the grievances faced by the students earlier, but the Minister has failed to acknowledge the appeal.
It has continued that the schools of the sub division have been facing several grievances for a long time which the state government has always looked away from.
It pointed out that some of the problems in the sub division are lack of teachers in the schools, lack of infrastructure and school buildings, improper transfer of teachers.
It has further elaborated that there are no teachers for Commerce at the Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School and demanding a teacher, the school students staged a sit in protest for two days in front of the school on August 16 and 17. The release continued that the state authorities instead of considering the demand of the students, transferred regular teacher N Rajen Singh (Geography lect) and utilised another teacher of the school N Dhana Singh Graduate Science Teacher.
It continued even as there are no commerce teachers in the school, there are five Biology teachers in the school with the latest addition of one Ch Dhiren Singh (Biology teacher).
It has also informed that a certain teacher of the school identified as Somendro Mukharjee Sharma (English teacher) has not attended the school for the past seven years though he is said to withdrawing his salaries regularly. The student bodies have further questioned why the government has failed to look into the issue.
Considering all the stated issues, the student bodies have stated that the state Education Minister will be boycotted in the sub-division.
It has also expressed the student bodies’ hope that the Education Minister will act according to the wishes of the people of the sub division.
