Imphal, Oct. 11: Newly-inducted parliamentary secretary for sports M. Prithiviraj was felicitated by Presto Wonders, Imphal branch and Celebrity Media Group, Manipur, at Olympic Bhavan at Khuman Lampak sports complex this evening.
Prithiviraj said he was hopeful of the prospects of sports in Manipur, particularly after India’s success at the London Olympics.
“In the Beijing Olympics, we won three medals and in the London Olympics we got six,” he said.
The sports scenario in India is transforming positively. India was able to win three medals at the Beijing Olympic Games but it was increase to six medals in the London Olympic Games 2012, which is a clear example of growth in Sports, he said.
Manipuri players should aim for more medals in the coming Olympic Games. Five players of the state have participated at the London Olympic Games and in the coming Olympic Games we should aim for more, he further said.
There is a need for developing more play grounds in the state as without proper platform many talented players will suffer for sure, he said.
The Chief Minister has been giving special attention in Sports sector and he will continue for sure. There are also many development plans underway and a seminar will be organized soon, he added.
M Prithibiraj was presented with simple gifts at the function by Celebrity Media Group and Presto Wonders.
Prithiviraj warned that drastic changes cannot be made but collective thought was needed for progress.
Youth affairs and sports director H. Deelep Singh also attended the felicitation-cum-interaction programme.
