Rapists sent to jail

IMPHAL, October 29: The two accused persons arrested for physically violating a school girl on October 20 last has been sent to jail yesterday.

It may be mentioned that a commando constable of Imphal West namely Yumnam William,28, s/o late Deben of Khagempalli Panthak and singer cum film actor Thokchom Tarun,27, s/o Jayanta of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai had enticed a schoolgirl of TG higher secondary school. The duo had taken her on a maruti car on pretext of joining a birthday party at Tampha Fast Food restaurant located along Airport road near Ghari.

She was later drugged in her drink and had been physically violated.

They had also recorded the crime on mobile phone. She was later found in a shocked state at Ayangpalli road in the evening.

They mentioned rapist had surrendered to Porompat Police on October 21 and booked under charges of kidnapping and rape. However, the crime incident being under the jurisdiction of Lamphel Police was thereby transferred to the same.

They were produced before the CJM Imphal on October 25 and had been remanded to police custody for 5 days. But on account of the two accused being fully interrogated and further judicial measures being sought from the side of the petitioners family for bail, they have been produced one day ahead in front of the Ojesh Mutum,Duty Magistrate 1st class, Imphal West at around 4 pm . They have been sent to judicial custody at around 10.30 am today.

It may be mentioned that there has been demands from students and civil organizations to award ample punishment to the rapist. There has been an episode of the duo being mobbed when produced before the court on October 25.

The same irate mob had also waited at Cheirap Court today waiting for the duo.
