Oppositions to stage sit in protest

IMPHAL, Oct 30: Seven opposition parties of the State will launch a sit in protest decrying the alleged scam involved in the Loktak Development Authority phumdi clearing contract, the nepotism in the staff appointment of the Manipur Assembly Secretariat and charges of misappropriation of central funds by the State Social Welfare Department.
The opposition members will observe the protest cum public awareness campaign at Yumjao Lairembi Community hall at Wahengbam Leikai around 2 pm tomorrow. The political parties include MPP,CPI,CPM,JD (S), JD (U), BJP and Trinamool Congress.
CPI State Council secretary Dr. M Nara in a telephonic conversation with IFP mentioned that the democratic set up of the State has been exploited and rampant corruption is carried out in various Government departments. The objective of the political parties is to highlight the scams to the public and fight the corruption within the administrative system.
The political parties will bring out documents which are evidence to the various scams perpetrated and that will be highlighted to different districts of the state in the form of a public awareness campaign.
It may be mentioned that representatives of the political parties had submitted a memorandum mentioning the scam issues to the Governor Gurbachan Jagat Singh and he had also assured the representatives that necessary action will be initiated in the regard.
