Chairman Sanayaima made the appeal before mediapersons as he was brought before the NIA special court today in Guwahati.
He was referring to the recent cases of threats and intimidation of NE people in Indian cities and the exodus of students and professionals.
He said, “The racial profiling of northeast youth and people in the Indian mainland is a reality and it is becoming crystal clear with the instances of backlashes on NE people for the Kokrajhar riots.”
“There are several instances of harassment, molestation, rape, killing and victimisation of the northeast people in the past and the recent case of assault in Pune is not an isolated incident,” he added.
Blaming the Indian government the UNLF chairman said that it has failed the northeast people and it has also failed to serve the interests of NE region.
Sanayaima said, “Some politicians say that the northeast region is accorded a special status in the Indian Union while the Indian government has not done anything concrete for the welfare of the region.”
“Unity in diversity is one of the miscarried Indian slogans for unity as India fails to sustain the binding of diversified people especially the people from the North eastern region, he added.
He further said, “The recent happenings in the metro cities of India reflect the general attitude of mainland and now it is time for the NE people to think seriously for the future generation.”
Ridiculing the Manipur government for staging fake surrenders Sanayima said that they pulled up retired cadres leading normal lives for the surrender ceremonies while those who wanted to come into the mainstream are kept under Suspension of Operation.
Sanayaima congratulated MC Mary Kom, Kothajit, Soniya, Bombayla and Devedro the Olympian from Manipur who participated in London Olympic 2012. He especially congratulated MC Mary Kom who begged bronze medal in the Olympic. He said that he on behalf of all are proud of them and salute them.
Today 14 members including UNLF chairman RK Meghan of the outfit were produced at NIA special Court Assam. Several charges including section 120 (B) of IPC 121, 121(A), 122 under section 16, 17, 18, 18(A), 18(B) and 20 UA(P) Act 1967 as amended in 2008 were charge sheeted against 25 members of the banned outfit. Argument on consideration of charge which has been continuing for the last 3 months been concluded on 8 August 2012 and order on framing of charge is fixed on September 6 2012.
