Indian Olympic winner is from Nagaland 3 corps

Dimapur, August 11 (MExN): Indian sharpshooter Vijay Kumar who won a silver medal in the London Olympics is from the 16th Dogra regiment of the 3 Corps in Nagaland, the army informed today. Kumar won the silver medal in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event at the ongoing Olympics in London on August 4.
According to a press release from the army, Kumar was selected at a young age as a raw talent by the military unit to hone his skills with the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU). “The sheer dedication, determination along with ice cool nerves and big match temperament made it possible for the young JCO to achieve this feat. Sub Vijay Kumar is also a recipient of Arjuna Award (2006) and has earned 109 Medals in various national and international competitions to include Doha and Beijing Asian Games, Melbourne and Delhi Commonwealth Games and World Military Games,” the army authorities informed.
Lt Gen AK Sahni, GOC of 3 Corps on behalf of the personnel of the formation and the people of Nagaland compliments Vijay Kumar for this rare achievement, the unit said. “In times to come Sub Vijay Kumar, along with other great Olympians of the region like MC Mary Kom, Chekrovolu Swuro, Shiv Thapa and many others will act as a motivating force for the youngsters to emulate and do proud to the region,” the army said.
