Border fencing bandh affects normal life

IMPHAL, October 7: The 12-hour bandh imposed by the Committee on Protection of Land in Border Fencing Manipur (CPBF), affected normal life in the state today.

The bandh started from 5 am and concluded at 5 pm today. However, there were no reports of any violence during the bandh period.

As the results of the 12-hour bandh, all business establishments including the main markets remained closed though private vehicles were seen on almost all major roads in the state capital.

The bandh also affected the education system in the state as most of the educational institutes remained closed.

At the same time, public transportation including inter-state and inter districts, services remained suspended.

The bandh was supported by many organisations including CPI Maipur state council, Elite Foundation Manipur and All Manipur Intellectual Forum etc.

The committee called the bandh owing to the failure of the state government to respond to the Indo-Myanmar border fencing issue.

The committee has been demanding the Government for a re-survey of the Indo-Myanmar boundary and halt the fencing immediately until a proper demarcation exercise is taken up.
