Seminar on Bamboo inaugurated

IMPHAL, September 12: A three day seminar on 'Indigenous Bamboo and Cane Culture in Manipur' was inaugurated today at the Department of Anthropology, Manipur University.
Professor H Nandakumar, Vice Chancellar Manipur University attended the function as the chief guest; Professor W Nabakumar Head of Department of Anthropology, MU as President and Kamesh Salam, founder and executive director of South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SABF), Gwahati as the guest of honour.
Professor Nandakumar Sharma in his speech mentioned that bamboo and cane culture will help in economic growth and are bio degradable products. Plastic can be replaced by the cane and baskets and many other things can be made from bamboos and cane, he said. He expressed his desire to see the state take up responsibilities of using bamboo and cane as a useful product.
Kamesh Salam said that the people should encourage the development of bamboo and cane production industries.
