Police file suo-moto case over Tamenglong chief’s assault

IMPHAL, September 12: As no one including the Chairman of Pungsan Chingmei Kabui Village under Khoupum Police Station in Tamenglong District who was allegedly beaten up and shot on his leg by suspected cadres of ZUF failed to file a complaint, police have registered a suo-moto case in connection with the incident.

The chairman of the village who was admitted to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) with a bullet wound in his leg has been identitfied as Nailin Kamei (54), son of Gaidinglung Kamei of Pungsan Chingmei Kabui Village.

According to reports, the chairman was seriously left wounded with a bullet shot in his leg. The incident reportedly took place at a place in Namkaolong Part II under Khoupum Police Station on August 31 last, around 7.30 pm.

Since the injured Chairman and other family members stayed away from filing a formal report with the police, the Khoupum Police Station registered a suo-moto case under FIR No 5 (9) 2013 KPM PS U/S 326/400 IPC & 25 (I–A) Arms Act.

Police have started investigations into the case. However, there were no reports of any arrest being made in connection with the case so far.
