Man arrested for rape attempt

IMPHAL, September 4: An incensed mob vandalised the house of a man who reportedly tried to rape a newly married woman taking chance of the absence of other family members at Thoubal Tangjeng on September 2.
Acting swiftly on the case, police arrested the accused person.
The culprit has been identified as Naorem Inaobi (37), son of Dharmo of Thoubal Tangjeng.
According to reports, Inaobi sneaked into the house of the woman and tried to rape her while she was sleeping on September 2 around 2 pm. When the woman cried out for help, locals rushed in and aprehended Inaobi.
Later, meira paibees of the local and volunteers of the club discussed about the quantum of punishment to be given to the accused person and it was decided that Inaobi be ostracised from the locality and his grocery shop was dismantled.
However, a team of Thoubal police came in and took away Inaobi from the clutches of the locals. He was produced before the CJM Thoubal court today.
