Imp-Ukl passenger services suspended; bus owners’ body wants understanding with TNL

IMPHAL, September 22: All passenger services along the Imphal-Ukhrul route will be ceased indefinitely until an amicable solution is brought between the All Manipur Bus Owners’ Federation regarding payment of taxes.

Speaking to media persons during a press conference at the Keishampat office of the All Manipur Bus Owners’ Federation, secretary A Priyokumar said the Ukhrul Imphal Bus and Trucks Owners’ Association had been paying a monthly tax of Rs 12000 to the Tangkhul Naga Long for the “welfare of the vehicles and passengers” for long under an agreement.

He said the tax payment was stopped after winger services were allowed along the route with permits from village chiefs of Ukhrul.

However, earlier this month, the TNL informed the buses to clear the tax dues before September 16 as its election was coming up, he said.

When the buses informed the TNL that they would pay the tax after the election is over to the newly elected office bearers, the caretaker office bearers of the TNL impounded six buses and kept them at Ukrul which only aggravated the issue, he alleged.

He further appealed to the state government authorities to look into the impasse and bring an amicable solution.
