Chinese companies willing to locate units at Manipur: Kakching MLA

IMPHAL, Sept 13: Kakching MLA, Y Surchandra Singh and Professor, Amar Yumnam, Manipur University who had earlier attended a series of meetings in China, organised by the Yunnan Academy of Social Science today said there is an increasing need for co-operation between India and China and there are likely benefits to be felt in the North East of India especially in Manipur.
Briefing media in this connection at his official residence, MLA Y Surchandra Singh, said that the visit to China was co-ordinated by Dr Guo, Yunnan Academy of Social Science, Kunming.
He revealed that in the first phase of their visit to China, they attended a meeting at the institute of South Asia Studies, Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences, Kumning wherein the gathering deliberated on the development needs of interests of North East India in general and Manipur in particular.
The need for cooperation in area likes education, agriculture, science and technology and energy, in particular social energy were the main highlights, said the MLA.
The meeting was reportedly attended by Chen Li Jun, Director; Professor, Jack Scholar; Dr Han Xin Zhong, Dr Guo and 15 others.
Further elaborating on the trip, the MLA informed that on September 5 and 6, they visited three factories of solar energy companies and held meetings with the top managements of the companies and discussed on how they can help Manipur.
On September 7, a similar trip was made at the Yunnan Academy of Agriculture Sciences, he said.
In their concluding journey of their Kunming visit, they visited ethnic villages and had detailed discussion with Dr Ranvijay Sinha, Deputy Director of Sino-India Entrepreneurship Development Centre and also discussed about Kunming, added Y Surchandra.
Elaborating on the second phase of their visit which was on September 9 to 10, the MLA said they visited the Great Wall of China, Tinnamen Square and OM Shiva Yoga Institution run by a native of the Manipur, Nonmaithem Kiran Singh from Kakching who is married to a Chinese national.
Y Surchandra further observed all the institutions and companies they interacted with have shown their willingness either for joint venture or locating their units in Manipur besides having exchange programs and transfer of knowledge and technology.
