State to go ahead with NEET merit list for state list selection

IMPHAL, August 24: The state cabinet has today reiterated its earlier decision that the state list for MBBS/BDS courses will be selected from the merit list of the National Entrance & Eligibility Test (NEET-UG).

The cabinet has also decided that the counselling for the selected aspirants will be conducted at the earliest.

Briefing media persons at his office today, government spokesperson M Okendro said, 18 states including neighbouring Nagaland have already selected their list for the MBBS/BDS courses from the Central Board of Secondary Education conducted NEET-UG.

The media persons were also provided a list of the states, during the briefing.

He continued that the counselling of the selected aspirants had to be delayed as the state was waiting for the state’s share of seats from the central pool.

There was also an appeal from the parents/guardians of NEET-UG selected aspirants to start the counselling only after the number of seats from the central pool is available, he said.

Further elaborating, the government spokesperson said that the state has received 20 seats for MBBS and two seats for BDS from the central pool and the state quotas at the RIMS is 30 seats and at JNIMS is 85 and the total seat for the state is 137.

Counselling for the selected students will be conducted at the earliest, he said.

Further briefing the media persons, the state government spokesperson said that the cabinet has decided to open a centre at Heingang assembly constituency in Imphal East for the breeding of Manipuri Pony.

The centre measuring 104 acres will affect land of 103 pattadars, he said before adding that the government has decided to pay full compensation to the affected pattadars. The Minister further expressed that the state cabinet had also discussed the development of the National Highways under funding from the Asian Development Bank.

Even though the discussion was on the compensation of the affected areas during widening of the highways, no substantial resolution was passed, he said.
