Poetry recital at CCpur

LAMKA, August 17: A one day festival of Poetry Reading program was held at Synod hall IB Road Lamka today. The program which was organized by the Sahitya Academy, New Delhi in collaboration with the Meetei Society, CCpur, started at 9:30 am with participation from both intellectuals and public leaders of the area.

Prof LS Gangte who was the moderator of the programme and another prominent personality of the area Dr Tualchin read out a poem each in their own local dialects and later on commented on them in English.

M Chaoba Stanley adviser of the Meetei Society, Ccpur in his key note address said that the festival was organized and undertaken to provide a platform for the people of different communities residing in CCpur to share and exchange their literature, cultural heritage and folk traditions.

The festival also aims at exporting the culture and literature of the region to the outside world and in other parts of the country so as to educate the people from outside the region of the culture and literature of the land.

This will be instrumental in preserving and upholding the indigenous culture of the land, he added.

The organizers say that there are five other such programs in the pipeline which will be held in the rural or semi-rural areas of Manipur in the near future.
