Manipuri language day observed

IMPHAL, August 20: The Patroitic Writers’ Forum Manipur PWFM today observed the Manipuri Language Day and also held an awards distribution function at the Manipur Hindi Parishad hall at Old Assembly Road.

The function was attended by senior citizen Dr Lokendro Arambam, president PWFM prof Jodhachandra Sanasam, former president PWFM Sagolshem Indrakumar Singh and Associate Prof YK College BS Rajkumar as chief guest, president, guest of honour and talker of the function respectively.

More than 60 individuals attended the function.

During the function, a book named “Ngaklou” was released.

During the awards distribution ceremony, Dr Nongmaithem Pramodini received the “Pacha Meetei Literary awards-2013”, Kartik Maiba received the “R Kathing Tangkhul Literary Awards-2013” while, Y Randhirkumar received the “Dr Saroj Nalini Literary awards-2013”.

Speaking at the function, Sagolshem Indrakumar said that the government has never taken up any developmental work for the development of the languages of the state; however, books are released on a daily basis.

Reacting to the ban of introduction of foreign words while writing books, he said that people should first consider the foreign words which are being introduced and see if it is irreplaceable.

Authors may, otherwise, stop writing due to lack of words, he cautioned.
