Jiribam’s students’ unions set deadline, threaten stir

JIRIBAM, August 8: Demanding that the education minister of the State Government and other concerned authorities to put their words into action regarding the lack of infrastructure and other needfulls being faced by lower schools and colleges under Jiribam Sub-Division in Imphal East district, four students’ union namely AMSU, MSF, DESAM and KSA have threatened to launch a series of intense agitations if their demands are not met before August 30.

Announcing this during a press meet held at the office of AMSU District Committee, Jiribam around 4 pm, the students’ unions stated that various demands made by it regarding the problem being faced by lower schools up to college level in Jiribam Sub-Division from long time back have not been addressed by the government so far.

Various demands put up by the four students’ unions include to fill the vacant post of teachers in Jiribam, to cancel the utilisation process used by teachers of Jiribam before August 30, to take up actions against teachers who have failed to attend at their respective posted schools and colleges, to balance number of teachers and students in Jiribam Govt Higher School and not to allow four teachers namely to teach students.

The unions alleged that the four lecturers mentioned in the memorandum served to the Education Minister on August 2 had failed to turn up at their respective posted schools since the last few years adding that they only thought for their salaries and that they should be held responsible if any untoward incidents arises thereof by defying the demands made by the students’ unions.

While appealing to the people to extend co-operation to their movement, it said that teachers deputed by the government are not attending at their respective posted schools alleging that the teachers are not teaching students by taking the help of utilisation process in connivance with some influential persons.

The concerned authorities should bring back those teachers to their respective schools looking after students before August 30 failing the students’ union would resort to series of intense agitation in collaboration with public, it cautioned while also demanding to confer Jiri College, the only college in Jiribam with government college status.

Today’s meet was also attended by AMSU District Committee’s president Y Sanjit Singh; MSF Special Branch’s president M Nilkamal Singh; Babuloo and Romio of DESAM Local Council and Sorojit of KSA Jiribam Unit.
