Works Minister lays foundation stone for bridge upon Khuga River

IMPHAL, July 6: Works Minister Kh Ratankumar Singh has today laid a foundation stone for the construction of an RCC Bridge at Leichongphai, Thingchom of Churchandpur district upon the Khuga River during a function presided by MLA TN Haokip, said a DIPR statement.
During the function, Works Minister said that when the construction of the bridge is completed, the distance of Leichongphai Thingchom from the main road will shorten to just 3 km from its present length of 20 km adding that road and bridge plays a vital role in development of the people, it said.
Further according to the DIPR release, the Minister said that there are plans for the construction of five bridges in the Saikot assembly constituency of which four have already been constructed.
TN Haokip, MLA Saikot who was the president of the function said in the function that several people had suffered broken limbs while trying to cross over Khuga River in absence of a bridge, informed the statement.
Further according to the DIPR statement, the MLA had also said that the people of the area should also welcome such development programmes of the government.
Principal Secretary R Muivah had stated that the bridge will be constructed under Special Plan Assistance (SPA) for which the Govt had earmarked Rs 1 crore for the financial year 2013-14 while the total estimated cost is Rs. 3.68 crore and the length and breadth of the bridge is 44 and 8.40 metres, said the DIPR statement.
The team had also inspected the ring road from Saikot to Saidan and the ongoing construction works of Churchandpur Mini Secretariat.
The engineers have asked the masonry team to speed up the works progress. The visiting team had a brief talk with the officials of 27th Assam Riffles, the statement said.
