Sonia asks CMs of Congress ruled States on implementation of food security prog

New Delhi, July 14: Congress President Sonia Gandhi has asked the Chief Ministers of Congress ruled States to speedy implementation of food security programme since the programme is to be implemented soon.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi held deliberations with Congress Chief Ministers on how to implement the food scheme seeking to provide cheap foodgrains to 82 crore people, for which an ordinance was promulgated last week.

Besides Congress Chief Ministers, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Food Minister K V Thomas, AICC General Secretaries and Core Group members participated in the meeting.

The aim of the meeting was to ensure that the scheme is implemented in the best possible manner with Congress-ruled states becoming role models in implementation of the food security measure.

The scheme will be rolled out in various states soon.

The food security scheme which is part of Congress Manifesto 2009 will provide right to cheap foodgrains to 82 crore people.

Later briefing media, Congress Spokesperson Ajay Maken said meeting discussed the ways to ensure early implementation of the food security programme.
BJP further said it wants a discussion on food Security Bill in parliament.

BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad further said that there are some amendments which BJP wants to include.
