LAMKA, July 13: The Sericulture Dept of Ccpur today organised a welcome function for the farmers of the district who were on a Sericulture farming exposure tour to Mizoram during the first week of July.
The programme was held at the Synod Hall, IB Road Lamka.
The tour was sponsored by the department of Sericulture, government of Manipur as assured earlier by the Minister of Sericulture Govindas during his visit to the district some months back.
The farmers left on July 1 and returned on July 6 and during the tour visited three farmers namely Thangnu Farm, Kaifang Farms and Saitual Farms.
Today’s programme “Sericulture Farmers’ Exposure visit team meet” was attended by the Director Sericulture, Manipur H Ginzamung Simte as the chief guest.
Speaking at the function, he said that the farmers are not doing enough for the success of Sericulture in Ccpur/Manipur though Ccpur has the potential to be a sericulture driven successful town.
He said the farmers should act in good faith and should work hard, while assuring that the government is always behind the farmers.
He continued that with help from the Japanese government and through the projects taken up thereafter, the government has provided the sericulture farmers for the construction of Silkworm nurseries, necessary equipments, technical know-how; but the farmers do not work and allow livestock to enter their farms, the Director added.
Under the Field Operational Unit (FOU), 420 farmers are provided chances to work, however most of them just finish the money though there is no practical result to show, the chief guest exclaimed during the function.
Elaborating further, the Director said that in order to maintain maximum transparency in the sanctioning of money, the government has provided the funds through cheques so that no officials are able to cut their percentage; nevertheless, the farmers can’t make it right, he added.
The government cannot just keep on rescuing the non-performers, he lamented.
The farmers who had visited Mizoram for the exposure tour thanked the government and its authorities while echoing that they have benefitted a lot from the exposure tour.
The second session of the meet was headed by the DD (Seri) of CCpur N Vialkhanthang who told the farmers to stop blaming the government and start their work in the right earnest.
