Mass tree plantation program concludes

IMPHAL, July 28: A two-month long “Mass Tree Plantation Programme” organised by the Assembly Youth Congress, Heingang ended today with a closing ceremony held at Soibam Lampak Community Hall, Laipham Khunou in Imphal East district.

It was graced by N. Biren, MLA of Heingnag AC; Nandalal Angomcha, president of H.B.C.C.; H. Benjamin, pradhan of Laipham Khunou Gram Panchayat and S. Somorjit, pradhan of Lairikyengbam Leikai Gram Panchayat as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, N. Biren spoke about various developmental works being taken up under his constituency including mending of roads taking place and to be taken up later in the constituency.

He further said distribution of kerosene is still going on in the constituency and rice in the form of mobile sale would also be started through the hands of pradhans of the constituency while admitting that the Food Security Ordinance would not be suited to the State as peoples who are under Below Property Line (BPL) in the land is not clearly specified.

He also emphasized on the need for planting more trees as it would enhance the oxygen supply saying that two fully grown trees could supports the oxygen supply to every family of four members.

A Dhon Dholok Chollon, composed by late Y Kesho’s followers was also held during the ceremony by the artistes of Guru Angou and Ibotombi Memorial Meitei Pung Arts Centre, Laipham Khunou.
