Man escapes from NSCN (IM) clutch

IMPHAL, July 20:  A PRO IGAR (N) press statement has said that 37 AR under the aegis of HQ 6 Sector AR/ HQ IGAR (N) assisted in rescuing a  civilian who had been kidnapped by NSCN (IM) on  July 18, from near Heningkunglwa, Peren Dist.

It said that the victim identified himself as Amon Sanjao (44), a resident of Bishenpur, Manipur and a timber merchant.

Further according to the statement, the victim had said that he was kidnapped from Senapati by the cadres of NSCN (IM) on April 16, 2013, as he was not able to pay an extortion amount of Rs 1,50,000 demanded by the group.

“He is believed to have been kept in captivity for almost three months in an isolated house near Jalukie”, the statement said.

The man also narrated harrowing tales of confinement, torture and maltreatment by NSCN(IM), the statement said.

The victim managed to escape from the captivity on the intervening night of July 14/ 15, 2013 and had been wandering in the forest for almost three days till he was spotted by an AR patrol and rescued, it claimed.

It said the man was found on July 18 at 2:30 pm approx by the patrol of 37 AR, near Heningkulwa while he was wandering in the forest.

“On realising the plight of victim, personnel of AR provided him immediate first aid to negate the onset of dehydration. The AR facilitated the victim being able to contact his family and thus reassure the family with regards to his safety. The victim has been handed over to the Police on July 19, 2013”.
