KSDC general strike ends; economic blockade begins

KANGPOKPI, July 9: The KSDC general strike along National Highway 2, the life line of the State within Sadar Hills ended peacefully today evening at around 5 pm, but will be however continued with an economic blockade.

There was no report of any untoward incident till the end of the strike due to the KSDC stir along the National Highway within Sadar Hills since all vehicles stayed off the road as well as all kinds of business activities, educational institutions, govt establishment remained totally and completely shutdown particularly at Kangpokpi.

One volunteers on ground of anonymity stated that, "KSDC Stir in Sadar Hills this time can be termed as the turning point of KSDC movement in Sadar Hills", while adding that the general strike has ended in the area without any incidents of violence.

This is the sign of public cooperation and support, he added.He further said that, except media and medical related activities and vehicles which has been exempted from the purview of the stir by KSDC, no other vehicles were seen on the road along the national highway within Sadar Hills particularly at Kangpokpi besides a complete shutdown of all kinds of business related establishment, educational institutions as well as govt offices, etc.

Our Moreh Correspondent adds: The 36 hour general strike called by the Kuki State Demand Committee, KSDC since 5am of July 8 greatly affected Moreh border town.Attendance in educational institutes including schools and colleges, remained nil due to the bandh and shops remained closed at the international border town.

The bandh had also affected international market Namphalong, with most shops remaining closed as there were no buyers from the Indian side due to the bandh.Several hotels in Tamu town also remained closed as there were no customers.

Speaking to media persons, KSDC spokesperson, and chairman, Moreh block Seipao said the government should initiate talks with the SoO signatory Kuki outfits at the earliest.He said that the general strike will be followed by economic blockades along the National Highways passing along the state till 5pm of June 11.
