Retail inflation based on CPI-IW eases to 10.24% in Apr

New Delhi, May 31: Retail inflation for industrial workers has eased to 10.24 pc in April compared 11.44 pc in March this year mainly on account of decline in prices of petrol and mustard oil.

However, the retail inflation, measured in terms of Consumer Price Index-Industrial Workers, in April was slightly higher than 10.22 percent in the corresponding month of last year.

"The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly CPI-IW stood at 10.24 per cent for April, 2013 as compared to 11.44 per cent for the previous month and 10.22 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year," a Labour Ministry statement stated on Friday.

"Food inflation stood at 12.39 per cent against 13.21 per cent of the previous month and 10.66 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year," it added.

According to the official release, CPI-IW for April rose by 2 point and is pegged at 226.

The indices of 40 centres are above All-India Index and other 35 centres indices are below national average.

The index of Chandigarh, Haldia and Ahmedabad centres remained at par with all-India index.
