MSF seeks alternative arrangement for admission

IMPHAL, June 12: The government should arrange for an alternative arrangement to provide admission in government schools for students who have passed their Class X examination but are unable to gain admission in private schools, said Koireng, General secretary, Manipur Student Federation (MSF) on Tuesday at the student body’s offic.

Speaking further, he said in the present educational system, the cut off for admission in the government schools is 50 percent including at Tamphasana Girls Higher Secondary, Johnston Higher Secondary and Churachand Higher Secondary School.

The school authorities will however the select the students according to the merit list, he alleged.

Since most students have secured high marks in this year’s Class X, schools should either conduct a written test or lottery form of enrollment of students, he said.

He also commented that there is a growing practice amongst the students to appear for their exams in far flung centres in order to get high marks.

He said in case admission is done through merit basis than student belonging to the poor families who had secured less marks will all be left out, so concerning the interest of such students it would be better it the government instructs its schools to select students through written test or lottery system.

He continued that the schools are selling their forms at a price of Rs 150 per form and the more prominent government schools including the Tamphasana Girls Higher Secondary, Johnston Higher Secondary and Chura Chand Higher Secondary School have already sold more than 2000-3000 forms even though their intake capacity is much less.

He further alleged that the schools authority is doing business by selling forms.

He lastly said that the Health Service Director should be responsible for the calling off of the state conducted Medical Entrance Test for MBBS/BDS as it is due to lack of proper understanding of the Supreme Court’s ruling.

He further warned of strong actions against the authorities for their negligence and to close down the office of the state Health Department.
